MQ friend Daniel Tucker did a residency at the Headland Center for the Arts in 2011. The residency was focused on the idea of Creative Ecologies and brought together artists and scholars who work in relationship to the environment, both urban and rural. While there, Tucker recorded interviews with 6 different artists who work with ecological themes in their art practice. All the interviews are great and show the diversity of strategies, interests, and collaborations that these artists employ. One common theme that sticks out in all the interviews is the desire to improve, fix, remediate, repair, or encourage respectful use of the land around us.
My favorite was this interview with artist Patricia Johanson-perhaps because she notes the shift in her art practice happened after the birth of her daughter. She was forced to change the way she worked and developed an affinity for the healing power plants.
