We have been gathering a bunch of disparate photos for a while, and have not had a good excuse to group them together until now. We hope to regularly post images of micro-habitats to call attention to what is around us and what we can build and support in the city. These situations inspire us and we hope you enjoy seeing them too.

Air vent at Fabrikken for Kunst og Design, Copenhagen
We came across this air vent at Fabrikken for Kunst og Design in Amager, Copenhagen. A little colony of moss was growing at the end of this air vent, which seems to be providing enough heat and moisture to encourage their taking root in what was a very inhospitable situation.

An explosion of plants and green space on Carlton St. in Fort Greene, Brooklyn
Rooftop gardens and farms are all the rage in NY. Documenting them doesn’t seem all that interesting as there is plenty of information out there if you want it. Coming across this house was a nice surprise. These folks really maximized what little growing space they have and the foliage seems to be exploding out of it. You can start to imagine the city’s buildings covered from ground to roof with all kinds of plants!
