Bee hives in a garden in our neighborhood

This Friday’s link love focuses on bees. We’ve found several bee related items around the web, a few of them local to Copenhagen.

Pruitt-Igoe Bee Sanctuary, friend and artist Juan Willam Chavez’s proposal for an urban bee sanctuary on a large lot in the city of St. Louis. The lot was formerly home to a public housing project, the Pruitt-Igoe homes, that had international recognition because they were designed by Minoru Yamasaki (World Trade Center, NYC) . The housing project was demolished and the lot allowed to return to an overgrown state. Chavez wants to “cultivate community through urban agriculture” with this project.

Urban bee keeping in Brooklyn. A beautiful short film showing Megan Paska’s rooftop bee farm. Paska discusses the growing concerns people have about where their food comes from, and how they can become more involved in their food’s production.

A local bee keeping project: Copenhagen’s Bybi.  An urban beekeeping and honey making project that also provides training and jobs to people who are homeless or have chronic alcoholism.

Beehive collective. Our favorite group of artists and activists who make stunning, large, collective designs about complex ecological and social justice issues. They are here mainly because of their name and the metaphor it evokes.

The ongoing Land Drama series presents seriously amazing discussions and performances going on for four weeks. Today’s event was about Bees! There will be a performance tonight and more performances and discussions next week.
