Søger Lejlighed #2
Last week we posted about our obsession with these Søger Lelighed (Looking for an apartment) signs and we are back again this week with some more examples from around Copenhagen.
First up, we have this wheatpasted example from our neighborhood; there is a little bit missing so my translation will be slightly off.
We are 2 students, one studying ___tiske fakultet (probably humanities course of study) and the other Pædegogs _____ (probably teacher’s education). We are looking to take over the lease of a new apartment in Copenhagen. We can pay maximum 6000 Danish kroner per month.
I am always impressed when the apartment hunters put in pictures of themselves. What does that say? Are they hoping to demonstrate their clean-cut and trustworthy qualities to potential landlords? Probably, and that is a little depressing. Including a picture is common practice here in Denmark; for example it is also recommended that you put a photo of yourself on your CV when applying for a job.
Next, I found this flyer in Vesterbro. It is an add for a family looking to buy an andelsbolig (cooperative) apartment. Andelsbolig apartments were created to allow people to have affordable housing by buying a share in a cooperative building ownership plan. During the housing market bubble of the early 2000s, many andelsbolig apartment boards got in to trouble financially by allowing shareholders to speculate when selling their property instead of keeping the standard price caps in place, inflating prices to high levels. This kept many people from being able to buy a share in what was once an affordable option.
Family looking for an apartment. We are a family with kids that has out grown our old apartment, so we need a new one. We want to have: A cooperative apartment in Vesterbro, 110 square metres + 3 rooms + 2. floor [3rd floor US] or lower. If you are thinking about selling, write or ring to us.
Finally, this really funny one appeared in our neighborhood featuring a mom and her son looking and looking for the perfect apartment. This one is great because of the hand drawn images and text. It reads:
We are looking and looking … Two gentle people from Fyn [an island near Copenhagen] are looking for an apartment in Copenhagen. Minimum 2 rooms. Highest rent 8000 Danish kroner per month. We are 39 and 5 years old. We are also interested in shared/collective housing options [There are many collectively rented apartment situations in larger apartments in Copenhagen]. Best Max and Christina We are looking and looking…!
Stay tuned for more editions in this series.
