It seems that a house is not a home until you make your own bed. Our intrepid Vermont correspondent, Micah, has this to say about the phenomena:
Building our bed feels very Vermont. Bed building is almost a requisite for full Vermont citizenship. Everybody here is a woodworker or hobby woodworker. Conversations frequently turn towards tools and things built. Whilst building this bed I have talked with several other people who have also built beds. One guy made his out of whole timbers. Did I mention that it was a water bed? It was a whole timber water bed frame. Don’t think that I’ll be trying that one anytime ever.
